How I made a Mrs Tiggywinkle pin cushion for a Montessori inspired fine motor activity

We have a much loved Practical Life activity with a pin cushion and some pins. Simple really. The children enjoy making patterns with the coloured pin heads and are also learning to keep sharp pointy things pointing away from them.

I bought this turtle pin cushion from the fabulous Slab Hut art co-operative in Samford QLD The Slab Hut Samford

After over a year of constant use the turtle needed repair. Actually it needs to be replaced as the best repaid I could manage was a turtle with a mohawke!

I found this book, Girl’s guide to sewing by Cheryl Owens which had a cute pin cushion pattern and gave it ago. I would have preferred a hedgehog brown or grey fabric but only had green with dots on. The children love the dots for the pins!

All done. Happy pinning!
