Rainy day threading

You need some packets of coloured straws without the bendy bits. I have to buy them online as the ones in the shops are all bendy!

Then some Birch size 13 tapestry needles. I store each one with a cork on the sharp end.

Then wool or yarn the length of a child’s arm (from the finger tips to the opposite armpit). Little squares or shapes of card with a hole punched in can be tied to one end to stop the straw beads from sliding off. This is also a great place to write the child’s name.

Some children like the idea of making a rainbow necklace and others attempt a pattern.

Sometimes one straw will slide inside the other and then another colour is made…….another opportunity to notice some colour mixing.

Easy to set up and no messy clean up!
